Why every AEC professional needs CAD and BIM

How CAD and BIM technology is leading most of the professions.

The use of computer-aided design or drafting and the simulation through BIM is the current big thing within all professions. It was at first considered to be a potential source of unemployment since the computer programs could perform the tasks that required human efforts autonomously.

In the current world, it has been working as an added advantage to every professional.

There are tedious operations, which demand that professionals within the sector must spend most of their time analyzing repetitive works. However, the use of CAD and BIM has enhanced immensely, the use of these techniques. The professionals that have been utilizing the efficiency of the CAD and the BIM to aid their operations include the architectural sector, engineering sector, the builders/project owners, infrastructure, general contracting, industrial use, the renewable energy, and product-manufacturing sector.

Architecture

Within the architectural sector, the use of CAD and BIM systems have gained popularity within the current world. The old ways that involved the pencil design and sketches have been outdated. Most of the tutors who used to follow the conventional ways on the drawing board and the T-squares are paving way for the use of CAD and the BIM systems.

The designs that used to go for more than a year to design can only take a matter of weeks. The modifications that might be demanded within the design, are as well easier to make. Unlike the ancient times that a single modification demanded redesigning the whole structure in a new sheet of paper.

Engineering

The engineering sector is so far, considered to be the most difficult course that an individual may pursue. This is because it requires a clear understanding of the mathematical principles, with negligible mistakes. With the introduction of BIM and the CAD systems, engineering has become one of the achievable courses that any learning institution can offer. This is because most of the difficult tasks that demanded the efforts of the engineer in terms of the mathematical principles and modeling have been made easier through the autonomous AI and ML that assist the systems.

Infrastructure

The sector of the infrastructure that the economy depends upon such as the roads, railways, bridges, and airstrips are currently being designed through the computer-simulated systems that utilize CAD and the BIM systems for the design and execution of the projects. Initially, these designs used to demand more research work and trial & error. The mapping of the actual structure of the landscape within a computer program to aid in the decision making has eased the operations within the infrastructure sector. There is a high extent of accuracy and sound decision making processes that are conscious of the environmental concerns as well as the needs of the people when the BIM and CAD are utilized within the sector.

Industrial sector

The industrial processes that are always repetitive and demands a high extent of accuracy, used to involve the efforts of skilled labor that was always expensive and time-consuming. The workers always suffered depression and had to ensure that high accuracy is reached with the changing days. With the introduction of CAD and BIM systems, accuracy has no longer been an issue within the industrial and manufacturing sectors.

All the operations are simulated within the computer systems, which in turn is used to yield results within the sector. Tasks can be done within hours, unlike the old days when they used to span days and even weeks.

Product manufacturing sector

For a specific product that is being produced on a large scale, the parameters that are in play such as the cost of production, the raw materials, the market reach, the desired quantity & quality, and the production efficiency often demands cumbersome operations that are often difficult to achieve. With the introduction of the BIM and the use of CAD, establishing a robust design has become a little bit easier. The cost demanded as well has been affordable since the software performs the tasks autonomously with a little inspection needed.

The renewable energy sectors

Renewable energy involves solar energy as well as wind power. Within these sectors, the production of the optimum functioning systems in the fastest way possible has been made easy by the introduction of the CAD and the BIM systems. The production of the most efficient power generation schemes like the recent introduction of the Tesla solar has been through the utilization of BIM and CAD that has immensely enhanced their scalability, and it is projected that the rest of the world will soon be able to afford them most conveniently.

General contracting sector

The operations that involve the general contracting for construction work and other service provision requires the analysis of the given tasks within the field and from the existing solution. For instance, the statistical parameters that are in play for a given project, for instance, highway construction projects involve a lot of data analysis. The use of the BIM and CAD has enhanced these processes since it eases the operation through autonomous calculations and error detection. The ancient paperwork that involved the stocking of massive personnel for the given operations have been so far outdated, and few skilled personnel has been sufficient for the production process within the sector.

Besides, the software that has currently been developed that is capable of overseeing the future problems and suggesting the probable solutions have been developed that as well utilize the BIM and CAD systems for the evaluation purposes is efficiently assisting the operations within the general contracting sector.
